4 Steps to Jump-Start Your Weight-Loss Like a Pro!
If you’re reading this article, you already know you’re ready for a change. So let’s assume that you’re motivated, excited, and looking to take that first step towards changing your diet for the better. Let’s also assume that you’re tired of hearing about drastic diets that leave you feeling worse than when you started.
Well, so have most of my clients. I am going to give you the tools I’ve developed to help them get to their goal weight, and stay there.
Write down a plan
We’re going to tap into the well of strength inside of you, the one that tells you you’re loved, you’re worth it, and you’re perfect exactly as you are. This is your inherent source of willpower that will sustain you when the going gets rough.
At the beginning of each day sit down with a piece of paper and pen (typing on a computer doesn’t have the same brain-body benefits), and take 2 minutes to finish this sentence in as many ways as you can:
If I truly loved myself I would _____ .
Go ahead, give it a try right now. Writing down even one ending to that sentence can bring about a palpable shift in your day, reprogramming your conscious and subconscious mind and propelling you towards your goal of having a healthy, thriving, beautiful body!
Take a probiotic
Take a daily probiotic supplement. There are many to choose from at your local stores and online, and I prefer the shelf stable ones over those that need to be refrigerated. Over 70% of our immune system is located in our digestive tract, and probiotics are the key to maintaining a healthy balance of flora right where we need it most. They help us absorb more water, and greatly increase our absorption of vital nutrients. Take your probiotic at the start of every day!
Speaking of water, let’s get you hydrated.
I recommend 80 to 90 ounces per day, or more if you break a serious sweat. Water is the cheapest, fastest way to jump-start your weight loss. So grab your favorite 20 ounce water bottle and bottoms up that baby 4 to 5 times a day!
Start tracking your food. Does your inner toddler start to say ‘But I don’t wanna!’? Mine did too, I promise. Yet once I learned how easy apps like MyFitnessPal and LoseIt were to use, and how much fun I could have with them, not to mention how insanely effective it was to get a big dose of daily awareness around what I was eating, it became something I really loved to do. Oh, and I lost over 20 pounds!
Track your intake
So, take if from me and many of my clients, accurately tracking your food can help you lose 1-2 pounds per week (that’s 50-100 pounds per year) and will get you to your goal weight in no time!
At this stage in the game, it can be helpful to work with a personal trainer or nutritionist who can help you understand what your ideal calorie intake is, as well as breaking down your protein, carbohydrate and fat goals. Each person’s physiology is different and these apps simply can’t replace a knowledgeable professional.
